The National Library of Mongolia (NLM) houses over three million books and publications. Over one million volumes of the collection, in the Mongolian, Tibetan, Chinese, and Manchu languages, are rare and valuable books, sutras, and manuscripts, Montsame reports.
Over 2 million pages of sutras in Tibetan language have been digitalized since 2018 as part of a project jointly implemented by NLM and the Asian Legacy Library.
As a global non-profit organization, the Asian Legacy Library provides a combination of technology, scholarship, and partnership to locate, digitally preserve, and safeguard the priceless cultural wisdom literature of the world. The Asian Legacy Library currently partners with seven preservation operations located across Mongolia, Nepal, and India.
The progress of the ongoing project was introduced at NLM on November 23, sharing the technology and experiences.
