Mongolia steps up its TIR transit game www.iru.org
Mongolia continues its journey to becoming a land-linked country with the recent introduction of TIR-EPD, TIR’s advance cargo information system, and green lanes.
As a landlocked country, Mongolia is striving to eliminate transit barriers, reduce delivery times and expedite the region’s potential for increased trade with proven United Nations tools such as the TIR system.
Most recently, IRU, together with its member the National Road Transport Association of Mongolia (NARTAM) and Mongolian customs, completed arrangements to deploy TIR-EPD. This will enable customs to manage cargo risks in advance, improving cross-border trade efficiency.
This pivotal step harmonises advance cargo information and risk management requirements with neighbouring countries, addressing key challenges faced by customs.
Mongolian customs have also launched TIR-EPD Green Lanes, starting with Zamiin-Uud, the primary border crossing with China, easing procedures for operators and drivers.
