DeMarcus Cousins to finish 2024-25 season in Mongolia www.basketnews.com
DeMarcus Cousins has signed a contract with the Selenge Bodons team, located in Suhbatar, Mongolia.
The city itself has a population of about 61,000 inhabitants, and is located on the northern route of the Trans-Mongolian railway.
The Selenge Bodons team itself made its debut in the Mongolian Basketball League this season and achieved a remarkable performance as they achieved 11 wins and are currently second in the standings. The addition of Cousins clearly raised ambitions, and his signing came after owner Naranbaatar Lunden promised to bring an NBA-caliber player to his team.
Cousins was considered a double-double machine and one of the most dominant basketball players in the NBA. Injuries took their toll, resulting in him becoming a journeyman.
The two-time gold medalist with Team USA and 5th pick in the 2010 draft stayed in Sacramento for seven years, and left after a big fight with George Karl and Vlade Divac. He then played for New Orleans, Golden State, Houston, the Clippers, Milwaukee and Denver, before starting his journey as a globetrotter.
He played in Puerto Rico and Taiwan, tried his hand at 3x3, before arriving in Mongolia, which he is putting on the world basketball map. The 4-time All-Star became a champion and Finals MVP playing for the Taiwan Beer Leopards.
His last team in the NBA was the Denver Nuggets, where he played in 2022.
