Two men involved in hunting wild boars in reeds have been arrested, the Mongolian ecological police department said Thursday.
The two suspects were arrested early this week while attempting to sell the meat of three wild boars in Bukhmurun soum in the western Mongolian province of Uvs, the police department said in a statement, noting that an investigation is still underway.
Wild boar in reeds has been registered in the Mongolian Red Book of Endangered Animals.
Under Mongolian law, a person convicted of killing wild boars in reeds will be fined at least 2.7 million Mongolian tugriks (982 U.S. dollars) or liable to imprisonment of at least a year, according to the police department.
The Mongolian government established the ecological police department in January, in order to strengthen the enforcement of the environmental laws and regulations of the country and the detection and investigation of suspected violations.
