In connection with the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 detected in South Africa, Mongolia will not allow the entry of foreign nationals arriving from countries that have cases of the new COVID-19 variant as well as those transiting through the countries.
As for Mongolian nationals who travelled through countries that have detected such cases, the State Emergency Commission has decided to have the citizens put in a 10-day mandatory isolation.
As of November 27, the Omicron variant has been detected in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Malawi, Belgium, Israel, and Hong Kong. Thus, in connection with the classification of the new COVID-19 variant as a ‘Variant of Concern’, Head of the State Emergency Commission, Deputy Prime Minister S.Amarsaikhan announced the decisions that were made at the commission meeting, with the input of medical experts.
The Commission made the decision to put the Mongolian peacekeepers arriving from South Sudan in a 10-day mandatory isolation although the country has yet to detect a case of the new variant. Furthermore, at certain locations such as the airport, autoroad checkpoints, and border areas, COVID-19 tests will also be carried out on passengers as well as staff.
