The National Energy Reform Committee of Mongolia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UPC Renewables, one of the world's leading renewable energy companies, in New York on April 29.
UPC Renewables is implementing a wind farm project in Dundgobi province with a total capacity of 2,400 MW.
The project aims to efficiently utilize Mongolia's renewable energy resources, export the produced clean energy to regional markets including China, improve the reliability of domestic energy supply, and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in Mongolia.
"Mongolia is taking a step to fully utilize its vast renewable energy potential. We aim to increase clean energy exports, contribute to the green development of the region, and open up new economic opportunities," Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Dorjkhand Togmid said.
"This partnership will enable us to leverage the wind resources of Dundgobi province to supply reliable, cost-competitive clean energy for export to China and to improve the reliability of Mongolia's central grid. We are committed to attracting international investment to Mongolia and promoting sustainable industrial development," CEO of UPC Renewables Asia Pacific Andrew John Sutherland noted.
As part of the project, a training centre will be created to provide the skills needed to build and operate the project, as well as to manufacture individual components of the renewable energy facility within Mongolia.
