As of today, a total of 4,127 participants have officially registered with the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to attend the 17th session of the Conference to the Parties (COP17), which Mongolia will host in Ulaanbaatar. 

The number has increased by more than 1,000 within a week, up from 2,836 registered participants reported last week. The National Committee for organizing COP17 clarified that the previously announced figure of approximately 2,800 participants reflected the registration status at that time.

The number of registered participants is expected to continue rising as the conference approaches. Delegates register directly with the UNCCD Secretariat, which regularly provides updated registration figures to the Mongolian organizers.

As of now, the 4,127 registered participants include:

• 1,137 representatives of State Parties;
• 2,100 representatives of observer organizations;
• 112 high-level delegates; and
• 763 participants in other categories.

Among the confirmed high-level participants are:

• One Deputy Prime Minister;
• 66 ministers responsible for environment and other sectors;
• 29 deputy ministers;
• Four former presidents;
• Five senior representatives of UN agencies; and
• Five vice presidents of international banking and financial institutions.

In addition, former presidents of the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Costa Rica, and the Republic of Finland have officially confirmed their participation in COP17.
