President Khurelsukh Receives Motegi Toshimitsu, Japan's Foreign Minister www.montsame.mn

Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, the President of Mongolia, received Motegi Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is paying an official visit to Mongolia.

President Khurelsukh said the Foreign Minister's visit is a clear reflection of the high level to which the two countries' "Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity" has developed. He emphasized that deepening friendly relations and cooperation with Japan, Mongolia's "third neighbor," remains one of the priority directions of Mongolia's foreign policy.

He noted that the state visit by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito and Her Majesty Empress Masako of Japan and their attendance as guests of honor at the opening of the National Naadam Festival had been written in golden letters in the history of bilateral relations, and he asked the Foreign Minister to convey his heartfelt greetings to them.

He noted that the government and people of Mongolia are always grateful to successive Japanese governments and the Japanese people for their valuable contribution to Mongolia's transition to a market economy and to strengthening democracy, human rights and freedoms, and social and economic development and stability.

He expressed support for maintaining the frequency of high-level and top-level mutual visits going forward and for mutually beneficial cooperation in trade and the economy, including e-governance, information technology, renewable energy, critical minerals, start-ups, education, culture, and tourism, as well as for strengthening friendship between the two peoples.

He thanked Japan for its delegation's participation in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) and said he was confident that Japanese lawmakers would take part in the "World Women Parliamentarians’ Forum" to be held in Ulaanbaatar next month.

Both sides welcomed the agreement in principle to expand "Chinggis Khaan" International Airport, a symbol of bilateral cooperation, using a concessional loan from the Government of Japan.

Foreign Minister Motegi affirmed his commitment to implementing the 2022-2031 Action Plan of the "Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity" and to further expanding and deepening cooperation between the two countries.
