Japan steel lobby criticizes US tariffs www3.nhk.or.jp
The chairman of the Japan Iron and Steel Federation has criticized a decision by the US to impose a steep duty on some Japanese steel products.
Kosei Shindo issued a statement on Monday. He said the federation has stressed that Japanese steel plate exports "have caused no injury to the domestic industry in the United States."
But the US International Trade Commission rejects the claim. Shindo said the move is "unjust and extremely regrettable."
Shindo's comments followed the Commission's announcement on Friday. Officials say cheap carbon and alloy steel plates from 8 places including Japan are hurting US companies.
As a result, Japan will face an anti-dumping duty of a maximum 48.67 percent.
