Mongolia’s Nobel Prize candidate selected www.news.mn
Earlier this month, the Norwegian Nobel Committee sent a formal letter to the Mongolian Academy of Sciences to invite Mongolia to submit a qualified nomination for the 2019 Nobel Prize for Literature. According to one source, the academy has again nominated Damdinsurengiin Urainkhai (D.Uriankhai) as the candidate for the prize having been their choice in 2018 also.
In 2017, D.Uriankhai became the 1st winner of the Asian Literature Award, selected by the Asia Culture Centre and the Organising Committee of the Asian Literature Festival. D.Uriankhai was born in 1940 in Bulgan province of Mongolia and became a poet in 1977. He is held in high regard as a poet for enhancing Mongolian literature through his intuitive and discerning style. In 1964, he graduated from the Plekhanov State Agricultural Academy of the Soviet Union (now the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics) and from the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in 1978.
