Cooperation between Mongolia and China’s Xinjiang discussed www.montsame.mn
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. A second meeting of the working group on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia (MFA Mongolia) and the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was held in Urumqi city, China on September 19.
The meeting was headed by State Secretary of the MFA Mongolia D.Davaasuren and Vice-President of the Autonomous Region People's Government Zhang Qingli, with participation of bilateral officials, including delegates of Khovd, Bayan-Ulgii, Gobi-Altai and Uvs aimags of Mongolia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
The meeting began with the delegates from Mongolia and China underlining that the cooperation dialogue has been revived after 12 years since its establishment in 2007 and that there are ample opportunities to develop partnership in all areas between Mongolia, particularly the five western aimags of the country, and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. The two sides also agreed to make the meeting a biannual event, hosting reciprocally in each country.
At the second meeting touched on a range of issues concerning trade, economic, infrastructural, agricultural, transportation and humanitarian cooperation, leading to an agreement on a number of issues. To be specific, both sides agreed to work together towards increasing the freights and passenger transportation and improve services of the mutual border crossing points and enhancing the border area infrastructure and establishing a work dialogue on border management to have a timely discussion and solution on issues regarding the border points.
In addition, the sides also agreed to organize expo and exhibitions with a view to strengthen border area trade and economic partnership and talked about exporting meat and meat products and animal-origin raw materials from Mongolia.
Within the framework of the educational, scientific, health and tourism cooperation, it has been agreed to create partnership between higher education institutions and vocational universities, intensify technical cooperation in prevention of animal and livestock diseases and promote cross-border tourism cooperation.
The Mongolian side remarked that the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region plays an important role in the implementation of the program to establish economic corridor of Mongolia, China and Russia. The meeting culminated in a protocol signed by State Secretary of the MFA Mongolia and Vice-President of the Autonomous Region People's Government Zhang Qingli.
