Bahrain, Mongolia hold first meeting of political consultations www.bna.bh

Manama, Feb. 6 (BNA): The first meeting of the political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of Bahrain Mongolia, held today, was co-chaired by Undersecretary for International Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and State Secretary Davaasuren Damdinsuren.

The meeting follows the Memorandum of Understanding on political consultation signed by the foreign ministries of the two countries on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah welcomed Secretary Davaasuren Damdinsuren and expressed his happiness with the tangible development of relations between the two countries in many areas of cooperation.

The first meeting of political consultations reflected the importance both countries attach to developing cooperation, exploring available opportunities and coordinating stances at international forums in a way that achieves mutual benefits and guarantees international peace and security, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah said.

He stressed that Bahrain attaches great importance to the Asian continent and cited in this regard the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa that was presented to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in 2009 and that called for activating the dimension of Asian relations in the Gulf with a view to achieving mutual benefits.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah also referred to the Kingdom's signing of the instrument of accession to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

The Undersecretary for International Affairs stressed that Bahrain is looking forward to strong and developed relations with Mongolia, especially that the two countries are members of the "Asian Cooperation Dialogue" and that they have many elements and advantages to invest in and to build on.

He also touched on the importance of opening new horizons of bilateral cooperation to cover the fields of renewable energy, mining, air transportation, entrepreneurship, banking services, tourism, exhibitions and sports.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah noted the availability of more promising opportunities to the two countries in private sector investments and the digital economy.

He expressed Bahrain's readiness to present its economic and development model to friendly countries as a distinct continental and international model for progress and prosperity in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

The Undersecretary for International Affairs called for promoting cultural and tourism exchanges through multiple channels and different forms and for intensifying scientific and research interaction to enrich bilateral cooperation and remove any obstacles that may hinder investments.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah expressed his satisfaction and optimism with the consensus between the two friendly countries regarding the importance of achieving the 2030 sustainable development goals and combating terrorism as well as uniting efforts to confront the problem of climate change and global warming.

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the friendly relations and cooperation between Bahrain and his country and their mutual keenness to develop bilateral ties in various fields to serve the aspirations of the two countries and friendly peoples.

He also expressed his deep appreciation for the generous hospitality and excellent arrangements that have been made by Bahrain to ensure the success of the political consultation meeting, wishing the Kingdom continued progress and prosperity.
