On July 3, Prime Minister of Mongolia L.Oyun-Erdene became acquainted with the progress of the construction work being carried out for the oil refinery in Altanshiree soum, Dornogobi aimag.
CEO of Mongol Refinery State Owned LLC D.Altantsetseg informed the PM about the project works underway.
Financed through a soft loan of USD 1.236 billion from the Government of India, the refinery will have an annual capacity to process 1.5 million tons of oil. Contractors have been selected and construction is underway for the engineering infrastructure and non-technological structures. Alongside building an office, training center, fire fighting and first aid, workshop, laboratory, and a warehouse on the refinery site, comprehensive infrastructure will be built for water supply from the Bor Huuvur Gobi. The main structures of the refinery are planned to be built following their completion.
Furthermore, an apartment complex is currently being built for accommodating the refinery’s employees. With a capacity to house 550 households, the apartment complex will consist of a total of 11 buildings, including office space, conference hall, dining hall, first aid center, school and kindergarten, shops, and green area.
As of currently, the construction of the apartment complex is at 85 percent. The plans to complete its first phase in June this year were delayed due to the pandemic situation.
Similar to the cities of Erdenet, Darkhan, Khutul, and Baganuur, Sainshand will also further develop as a city as it is based near the oil refinery, said CEO D.Altantsetseg.
Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene said, “On behalf of the Government, I express my gratitude to all of you for contributing to one of the large-scale construction projects that will be marked in our country’s history. Although it is important to continue to make progress in carrying out the works in adherence with the infection prevention guidelines, health and wellness should always be prioritized.”
