Succeeded in stratospheric balloon launch experiment with Chiba Institute of Technology, Mongolia Institute of Technology www.univ-journal.jp
The Chiba Institute of Technology Planetary Exploration Research Center, in collaboration with the Institute of Space Life and Space Economy and the Mongolian Institute of Technology, conducted a successful stratospheric balloon launch in Mongolia as a preliminary experiment for cosmic dust collection.
The experiment was conducted on the early morning of June 6 in the plains on the outskirts of Arvaikheer, Ovörkhangai Province, located about 10 km southwest of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.The balloon ascended to the stratosphere, burst at an altitude of 400 km higher than planned, and landed at a point about 40 km southeast of the launch point.As a result of the analysis, we also succeeded in measuring the absolute pressure of 70 hPa or less in the stratosphere.
This experiment was conducted for the first time in collaboration with the Mongolian Institute of Technology, which signed an inter-university exchange agreement in March 2016.It is said that the experiment was closely coordinated with related organizations and paved the way for a permanent stratospheric balloon launch experiment in Mongolia, which had been difficult until now.Based on this result, we will continue to carry out continuous and frequent stratospheric balloon launch experiments in collaboration with related organizations in Mongolia and Mongolian Institute of Technology, and challenge to unravel the mystery of cosmic dust.
As of June 2016, Chiba Institute of Technology has signed inter-university exchange agreements with 6 universities in 16 countries and regions, including the Faculty of Engineering of Pennsylvania State University in the United States and the Faculty of Science and Engineering of the University of Toronto in Canada, in addition to the Mongolian Institute of Technology. We are promoting exchange studies and academic exchanges.
