A military contingent of the Mongolian Armed Forces serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission “UNMISS” is honorably carrying out its mandate to protect civilians in Abyei, South Sudan.
Since the 14th of last month, due to the security situation in the region, more than 1,400 civilians have sought protection and entered the base. Mongolian peacekeepers promptly received them and have taken over 1,400 civilians under protection.
As part of the civilian protection operation, the contingent set up a medical tent and established a primary care point, providing emergency medical assistance to injured civilians and isolating those requiring separation.
Among the civilians who sought protection was a pregnant woman close to giving birth. The base’s physician, Senior Lieutenant Tserenlkham Ts., and nurse Staff Sergeant Uuganbayar D. assisted with the delivery, ensuring the safe birth of the child and the well-being of both mother and newborn.
