Korean Air expands Mongolia reforestation programme www.traveldailynews.asia
Korean Air has launched its annual reforestation programme in Baganuur, Mongolia, continuing an environmental initiative established in 2004 to help address regional desertification.
The two-week programme began on May 11 and involves approximately 210 Korean Air employees participating in tree planting and forest maintenance activities across the 44-hectare Korean Air Forest.
According to the airline, employees will plant around 1,000 trees during this year’s programme while also conducting pruning and replanting work to support the long-term sustainability of the forest.
The Korean Air Forest serves as a windbreak, reducing dust and sand generated by nearby mining operations and supporting environmental conditions for the surrounding communities.
Community engagement programmes included
Alongside the environmental activities, Korean Air is also organising educational and sports programmes at Gungalutai and Bolovsrol National Schools in Mongolia. Employees conducted aviation workshops where students learned basic aerodynamic principles through hands-on model aircraft-building activities.
A representative from Korean Air stated: “The 23-year history of the Korean Air Forest represents our focus on operational consistency and environmental stewardship.” The representative added: “Korean Air remains committed to its corporate responsibility goals and will continue to implement initiatives that deliver measurable results for the communities we serve.”
The Mongolia reforestation programme forms part of Korean Air’s broader environmental and community engagement activities across Asia.
