Inside Mongolia’s First Solar-Powered Industrial Plant www.montsame.mn
Prime Minister of Mongolia Uchral Nyam-Osor visited the "Khovd Eco Cement" plant during his working trip to Khovd aimag.
The plant, which was put into operation in 2022, employs more than 350 people. In addition, by purchasing necessary goods and services from local herders, farmers, and SMEs, it has indirectly created 3,000 jobs.
Furthermore, it produces 400,000 tonnes of cement annually, meeting the needs of the five western aimags and supplying its products to Bayankhongor, Uvurkhangai, and Ulaanbaatar. Starting this year, the plant began exporting cement to the Russian Federation. Plant representatives briefed the Prime Minister on their plan to export 100,000 tonnes annually and requested support in exporting cement to the Eurasian market.
"Khovd Eco Cement" has become Mongolia's first plant powered by renewable energy. It has established an 8 MW solar power station and installed solar panels with the goal of meeting 50–60 percent of its annual energy consumption through renewable energy.
This provides the advantage of reducing the energy load in the western region. The plant will also soon be equipped with a battery energy storage system. As a result, the plant's energy costs will decrease, and building material production will expand. Plant management noted that relevant government agencies need to resolve the issue of integrating their surplus energy into the central grid.
The Prime Minister expressed his full support for wealth creators and directed relevant officials to promptly resolve the challenges facing the plant in accordance with regulations.
