Enkh-Amgalan Luvsantseren, Minister of Education, met with Jo Haeng-Lan, KOICA Country Director for Mongolia, to discuss the implementation of a school meal production project.
The meeting covered progress on a project funded by a USD 8 million grant from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to renovate 10 general education schools and provide equipment for the National Center for Child Food Production and Nutrition Training at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), as well as prospects for further cooperation.
Mongolia aims to establish a comprehensive meal production system for schools and kindergartens. Minister Enkh-Amgalan emphasized the need for three different models tailored to the specific conditions of soums, aimags, districts, and the capital city. He also highlighted the support center at MUST as an important and effective initiative, proposing that professional experts be engaged through the center in the future.
Mongolia has joined the global “School Meals Coalition” and reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation to improve students’ meals and nutrition at a recent UNESCO meeting.
Under the KOICA-funded project, renovation work was completed at three schools and the MUST training center in 2025, while work at four schools is ongoing in 2026.
During the meeting, the sides reviewed the project’s progress in detail and agreed to resolve outstanding coordination issues, accelerate implementation, and ensure the project delivers results effectively and on schedule.
