Enkh-Amgalan Luvsantseren, Minister of Education and Member of the State Great Khural, has introduced a specialized high school model as a major reform of the education sector. The model aims not only to expand access to education but also to raise the quality of learning. According to Enkh-Amgalan, the development of specialized high schools is expected to deliver several key benefits.
First, it will enable schools to provide education tailored to students’ needs, talents and interests, allowing them to study selected subjects in greater depth in line with their future career paths.
Second, students will be able to build their academic foundations for higher education while still in high school and transfer the credits they have earned when they continue their studies at university.
Third, the system will help prepare a workforce that meets labor market demands. It is expected to reduce the mismatch between the supply of and demand for skilled professionals in Mongolia and to train more specialists in high-demand and priority fields.
Speaking at the opening of a training program for administrators of specialized high schools, Enkh-Amgalan welcomed the progress made by several such schools in Ulaanbaatar and noted that aimags and local communities had also taken the initiative to establish and operate specialized schools.
“The specialized high school model represents one of the major reforms in the education sector. It is not simply about improving access to education but a systemic change aimed at raising its quality. Specialized high schools will help students develop practical skills and competencies, while identifying and nurturing the talents of outstanding students in rural areas and providing them with new opportunities,” he said.
The training, organized by the Ministry of Education, aims to help school administrators and stakeholders strengthen cooperation in developing specialized high schools, implement their curricula and academic plans effectively, and organize educational activities tailored to students’ needs, interests and career aspirations.
