Mongolia, India Discuss Rare Earths, Oil Refinery, and Tech Cooperation www.montsame.mn

Chinburen Jigjidsuren, Member of the State Great Khural and Chair of the Mongolia-India Parliamentary Group, met with Atul Malhari Gotsurve, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Mongolia.

The two sides exchanged vies on the progress of major bilateral cooperation projects and future opportunities for joint efforts. The Parliamentary Group head Chinburen emphasized the crucial role of inter-parliamentary relations in enriching the Mongolia-India Strategic Partnership through concrete projects, mutually beneficial trade, and inter-sectoral cooperation.

He noted that construction of the Oil Refinery, a project initiated during President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa’s tenure as Prime Minister, is progressing successfully, highlighting the importance of accelerating its implementation toward operational readiness. He expressed full readiness as head of the parliamentary group to support and cooperate on all fronts to expand and deepen bilateral relations.

Ambassador Gotsurve thanked the host for hosting the meeting and provided updates on three major projects supported by the Indian government: a USD 1.7 billion oil refinery financed through a soft credit line, the Mongolia-India Friendship Secondary School, and the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Center of Excellence in Information Technology, Communication and Outsourcing. He also highlighted the launch of direct flights between the two countries.

The ambassador emphasized that these projects will make tangible contributions to Mongolia’s energy security, education, and technological development. In the context of commercial and economic cooperation, Gotsurve voiced India’s interest in partnering on rare earth elements and purchasing coal from Mongolia.

The two parties further discussed expanding healthcare cooperation and leveraging India’s expertise and capabilities in information technology, particularly artificial intelligence.
