Mongolia-one of the best ethical destinations for 2017 www.en.montsame.mn

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolia has been selected as one of the world’s ten best ethical destinations for 2017 by Ethical Traveler, nonprofit organization a project of the Earth Island Institute. The countries on the 2017 list include Belize, Cabo Verde, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominica, Palau, Tonga, Uruguay and Vanuatu.

Every year, Ethical Traveler reviews policies and practices of over one hundred developing nations, focusing on three general categories: environmental protection, social welfare and human rights and selects the ten that are doing the most impressive job of promoting human rights, preserving the environment and supporting social welfare. Mongolia also won the title in 2016.

“For each category, we look at information of past and present to understand not only the current state of a country, but how it has changed over time. This helps us to select nations that are actively improving the state of their people, government and environment. Our goal is to encourage the behaviors we see as creating a safer and more sustainable world…. For a country to make our list, of course, it must excel in more than metrics. Each Ethical Destination also offers unspoiled natural beauty, great outdoor activities and the opportunity to interact with local people and cultures in a meaningful, mutually enriching way. By visiting these countries, we can use our economic leverage to reward good works and support best practices” reported the Ethical Traveler.

“Mongolia impressed us again this year with a huge investment in education projects for 457 schools, benefitting half a million students and teachers. In an effort to increase interest in the sciences, the Ministry of Education created 200 new physics labs in secondary schools across the nation”.
