Cryptocurrency bitcoin breaks $9,000 barrier www.rt.com
The world's most valuable digital currency has smashed another all-time high. Bitcoin has surpassed the $9,000 level on Sunday on growing signs of mainstream adoption.
The latest rise has been attributed to increased investor interest around the US Thanksgiving holiday and Black Friday shopping. "The move appears to be retail driven," said Brian Kelly, CEO of BKCM, which runs a digital assets strategy. The largest US bitcoin exchange, Coinbase, added about 100,000 accounts before the weekend — to a total of 13.1 million, according to public data available on its website.
The price of bitcoin has jumped nearly nine times in value this year amid increased interest from institutional investors. The world's largest futures exchange, CME, is planning to list bitcoin futures in December.
The world's most popular virtual currency was trading at $9,522 as of 19:00 GMT on Sunday. Bitcoin's market capitalization has now surpassed $155 billion.

MPP: Congress sees transfer of power to new leadership www.montsame.mn
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 28th Congress of the Mongolian People’s Party closed on November 23 after convening for four days. Main results of the Congress include revision of the Party’s Rule and Action Plan, election of a new Chairman and members of the Party’s Conference and Supervisory Committee and adoption of a Communique.
On the second day, the party elected a new Chairman. MP G.Temuulen nominated D.Khayankhyarvaa, Head of the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) Group in Parliament, whereas Ts.Nyamdorj, Minister of Justice and Home Affairs nominated Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh, who was elected the MPP’s 15th Chairman after receiving 775 votes or 63.1 percent support in a secret poll conducted among the Congress participants. D.Khayankhyarvaa secured 36.9 percent votes.
Following the announcement of the poll results, Speaker M.Enkhbold gave a speech, looking back on his chairmanship. “I took chairmanship of an opposition Party with 26 seats in Parliament, and am handing it over with 65 seats. This is the shortest report on my two terms as MPP Chairman,” he said. He also expressed his confidence in his successor U.Khurelsukh, saying the latter can ensure unity and integration within the Party.
Newly elected Chairman U.Khurelsukh addressed the Congress after receiving the Chairman’s Seal from his predecessor M.Enkhbold. “I have been listening to both criticism and appreciation from the Congress delegates for the last two days. The fate of Mongolia is inseparable from that of the MPP,” said the Chairman, acknowledging his responsibility to recover the economy. “I will highly cherish and protect the Party’s unity” he said.
“The Mongolian People’s Party is Mongolia’s oldest political party founded for the sovereignty, national security and development of this country,” remarked the Chairman, citing the Party’s crucial roles in the development of Mongolia until today. “I am taking chairmanship in a challenging time for both Mongolia and the Party. It is time to show how powerful and united the Party is,” he said. The Chairman pledged to take all possible actions and put necessary efforts in order to fulfill the Party’s promises to the Mongolian people until the 2020 General Elections.
On the third and fourth day of the Congress, nomination and election of 369 members of the Conference took place, to conclude with the forming of a new Conference. The new Rule, adopted on the first day of the Congress, reflected that the number of members of the Conference will be increased to 369 from 310, the Steering Council 29 and the Supervisory Committee 15.
The three-day conference was attended by 1,309 members of the party, 696 of whom are first-time attendees and 306 were women. The youngest delegate to the Congress was 22-year-old T.Tsend-Ayush from Dornogobi aimag whereas the oldest was 100-year-old P.Shagdarsuren, who worked as secretary to Yu.Tsedenbal.
In his closing speech, newly elected Chairman, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh reiterated his readiness to lead the ruling Party towards unity and productivity. “The new leadership has been entrusted with a huge responsibility which we will take on with pride,” he stated.
Founded in 1921, the Mongolian People’s Party is a center-left political party with more than 200 thousand members across the country. The Party will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2021. ...China busts underground bank funneling billions out of country www.rt.com
Chinese authorities have exposed a clandestine banking scheme used by more than 10,000 people to transfer over $3 billion overseas. Beijing has recently boosted efforts to curb capital outflows and fight corruption.
According to state news agency Xinhua, Chinese police have detained seven people in the southern province of Guangdong in connection with the scheme which involved more than 20 billion yuan ($3 billion).
The suspects allegedly profited from the exchange rate between the Chinese yuan and the Hong Kong dollars. Almost 150 “illegal and fraudulent accounts” are suspected of being involved, said the police, adding the investigation was still ongoing.
The people running the underground bank had illegally bought and stolen the identity documents of more than 200 people to open the fake accounts that underpinned the enterprise, said the authorities.
China’s public security ministry cracked down on more than 380 illegal underground banks last year, involving over 900 billion yuan ($137 billion). In 2015, Beijing busted the country’s biggest “underground bank” which handled $62 billion (410 billion yuan) of illegal foreign-exchange transactions. The bank transferred money overseas using non-resident accounts, exploiting regulatory loopholes and bypassing oversight. More than 370 people have been arrested; some face lawsuits or criminal charges.
Chinese authorities have imposed strict limits on the amount of cash that can be moved out in an attempt to keep a firm hand on the value of its currency. The government set a $50,000 limit on the money citizens can move out of the country in a year while businesses can make bigger transactions.
The restrictions led some Chinese nationals to use underground banks to get cash overseas illegally because they felt investments were safer outside the country.
Singapore to use driverless buses 'from 2022' www.bbc.com
The government says they will be piloted in three new neighbourhoods which will have less-crowded roads designed to accommodate the buses.
The buses will be used to help residents travel in their communities, and to nearby train and bus stations.
Densely-populated Singapore hopes driverless technology will help the country manage its land constraints and manpower shortages.
"The autonomous vehicles will greatly enhance the accessibility and connectivity of our public transport system, particularly for the elderly, families with young children and the less mobile," the Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said.
The autonomous buses are expected to complement existing manned bus services, and will initially operate during off-peak hours.
Additionally, the government plans to let commuters hail on-demand shuttles using their mobile phones.
Singapore has less traffic congestion compared to many other cities in Southeast Asia, due to road tolls and policies that promote public transport.
The country also hopes to become a leader in driverless technologies.
Driverless taxis are already being trialled in Singapore.
"Our land transport constraints may help us become a global player in urban mobility solutions. What works here is likely to also work in other cities," said Mr Khaw, who was speaking at the launch of a test centre for self-driving vehicles on Wednesday.
The new centre will allow driverless developers to test how their cars and buses would handle pedestrians, heavy rain, aggressive drivers, cyclists, scooters and other road scenarios.
At least 10 companies are currently testing driverless car technology in Singapore, Mr Khaw added.

China expands Mongolian vocabulary www.news.xinhuanet.com
HOHHOT -- "Shared bike" and "facial recognition" are among more than 18,000 new terms and words that have been added to the Mongolian vocabulary in China.
Over the past two years, China's Mongolian language working group has been collecting, reviewing and translating words that were absent in the existing Mongolian language.
According to deputy head of the group Qi Jinyu, the new words related to politics, economy, technology, society, law and the Internet will be published in Mongolian media and compiled as a mini dictionary.
The timely update of the Mongolian vocabulary is conducive to the ethnic group's understanding of modern society and the development of the millennia-old language, Qi said.
Mongolian speakers mainly live in China, Mongolia and Russia. About 6.5 million people of the Mongolian nationality live in eight Chinese provinces and regions including Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Gansu, Xinjiang and Qinghai.
European investors to fund $53-million bio-coal plant www.mining.com
Baltania OÜ, a 100% owned subsidiary of Dutch private equity investment firm Momentum Capital, announced that it has made a conditional investment decision to commission an industrial-scale torrefaction bio-coal plant in Vägari, Estonia.
The project would be carried out together with the Baltic country's ministry of environment at a cost of approximately $53 million. Part of the initial investment will be funded by Momentum Capital and other venture capitalists and financial institutions. The European Union will provide a grant of about $30 million.
With the idea of supplying clean energy to utility companies in Nordic countries and Central Europe, the bio-coal plant will rely on a torrefaction technology developed by a Dutch company called Clean Electricity Generation. The goal is to produce and process approximately 160,000 tonnes of torrefied bio-coal pellets per annum.
The bio-coal pellets are obtained from forest residues and the idea is that they partially or fully replace fossil coal in electrical power or heat generation.
The production line includes CEG’s proprietary torrefaction reactor, syngas cleaning equipment (wet scrubbing) and commercial gas engines. The way it works is that syngas derived from the biomass is used to power the gas engines producing renewable electricity. Subsequent to power generation, the hot engine exhaust is used to heat the torrefaction reactor and supplement the biomass material drying. The reactors then utilize vibratory conveying technology to move material within its sealed components. Each reactor is coupled to a bespoke syngas cleaning system for the removal of tars and connected to a gas engine to create a reliable production line.
Although the process is similar to charcoal production, "it takes place in a much lower temperature environment that requires less exotic and less expensive materials, which results in biofuels with more favorable combustion properties, better mechanical and storage properties, and higher energy density," CEG states on its website.
According to Baltania, the energy density and grind-ability of renewable and sustainable bio-coal pellets are similar to thermal steam coal and significantly higher than that of white wood pellets or wood chips. This also means that logistic costs per tonne transported are lower.
The company expects that its plant helps revitalize the eastern town of Vägari by creating at least 30 jobs in production, 300 jobs in harvesting and logistics, and more than 200 temporary jobs during the construction phase.
Sonos is running a rare Black Friday sale that includes its new Alexa-enabled smart speaker www.businessinsider.com
While Black Friday is full of deals — you can see our favorite tech ones here — some stand out more than others. Sonos rarely discounts its speakers, but it's kicking off a holiday season sale today. Right now, you can save $50 on a Sonos PLAY: 1 or PLAY: 3, $100 on a PLAYBASE or PLAYBAR, and $25 on the Sonos One.
Although it's getting the smallest discount, the most significant deal being offered is on the Sonos One. The Alexa-enabled Sonos speaker was only released last month, but has gotten quite a lot of fanfare. The marriage between Sonos' connected speaker ecosystem and Amazon's Alexa smart home platform is very powerful. You no longer have to sacrifice audio quality for convenience, which was a big issue with the original Echo.
The One lets you control your smart home accessories and listen to your favorite music without a big compromise.
Unchanged since last year, the PLAY: 1 and PLAY: 3 are Sonos' entry and mid-range speakers. Each can be used individually, or paired with an additional PLAY: 1 or PLAY: 3 for stereo sound. I was able to try the PLAY: 1 for myself earlier this year, and now I understand why Sonos' speakers are so popular. Between their easy setup, surprising flexibility, and great sound quality, it's hard to recommend other speakers in their respective price ranges.
The PLAYBASE and PLAYBAR are Sonos' home theater solutions, and they have a lot in common. Both cost the same amount, can be paired with PLAY: 1 speakers and a Sonos SUB to create a full surround-sound system, and have been very well received. The PLAYBAR looks like a traditional soundbar and can be mounted, while the PLAYBASE is meant to sit directly underneath your TV.
All of these deals are well worth considering whether you've got Sonos speakers already or are looking to start your collection. The Sonos One, PLAYBAR, and PLAYBASE, will be discounted from November 24 through November 27, but the PLAY: 1 and PLAY: 3 will keep their lower prices as long as supplies last. Still, these speakers are so popular that you should act sooner than later.
